Black-headed python
Aspidites melanocephalusThe black-headed python (BHP) is a lovely snake to look at, and while not quite in the woma class as far as handling and temperament go, is still quite good, with most animals reluctant to bite, easy to manage, and fascinating to observe. They do have a good bluff system in place, such that some animals, even after years of captivity still huff and puff and thrash about when being picked up, but even then are very reluctant to bite, and in fact rarely do. In most instances, after the occasional handling, BHPs become quite calm and are very easy to manage. This species represents a stunning addition to any collection but is probably not an ideal choice as a first snake...
